About Artist:
Kambiz Derambakhsh is hailed as one of Iran's foremost contemporary satirists, known for his nuanced thinking and visual acumen. His artistic journey began at Tehran Boys' Fine Arts Conservatory, where he swiftly transitioned into the realm of cartoons, contributing to publications like Etalaat and Black & White weekly. A pivotal trip to Germany in 1963 broadened his understanding of caricature, laying the groundwork for his global recognition. Upon returning to Iran, he continued his prolific career, notably contributing to Tofiq weekly for seven years before eventually relocating to Germany in 1981, where he resided for two decades.
Derambakhsh's artistic legacy extends far beyond Iranian borders, with his designs featured in esteemed publications like Le Monde and The New York Times. His works adorn the walls of renowned museums and art centers worldwide, including the Avignon Museum in Paris and the Hiroshima Museum in Japan. Notably, he was the first Iranian visual artist to receive the Knight Medal from the French government in 2014. Despite his passing in 2020, Derambakhsh's legacy lives on through his thought-provoking compositions, characterized by abstract formal tendencies and metaphorical visual metaphors that challenge viewers to reconsider societal norms and engage in poetic imagination.
