About Artist:
Born in Tehran in 1939, Sadegh Tabrizi is a celebrated artist known for his pivotal role in the Saqakhaneh and calligraphy movement. He began his artistic training under the tutelage of masters such as Kimia Qalam and Ali Akbar Kaveh, and further honed his skills in miniature painting at the Tehran Academy of Fine Arts. Tabrizi's academic journey led him to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the School of Decorative Arts and a Master’s in Interior Design. His professional career took off with his first exhibition at the Iran-American Association, and since then, he has been a regular fixture in prominent exhibitions both in Iran and internationally, including solo showcases like the one at Columbia University Gallery and participation in major art fairs like Art Basel.
Tabrizi’s work is characterized by a distinctive blend of traditional Iranian motifs with the modern aesthetics of the Saqakhaneh movement, particularly noted for integrating calligraphy and painting. His style diverges from traditional miniatures by incorporating exaggerated figures and animals, placing his art in a modern context while preserving its cultural roots. Curator Tony Korriger notes that Tabrizi’s art transcends mere aesthetics by seeking to illuminate and interpret the complexities of the modern world through themes of light, love, and peace, thereby offering deeper insights into reality and human experience.
